Support for the North = Knowledge
In Israel today there is a lack of public critical and coherent social economic discourse. Such discourse scarcely exists in academia and is unattainable beyond academia to the public at large.   This lack of discourse has created a social-economic policy in Israel which we believe has led over the past 20 years to a growing rate of poverty. The percentage of working people living under the poverty line has risen from 21% in 1989 to 34.5% in 2005.
SEA’ s project Support for the North = Knowledge offers activists in the northern periphery of Israel the tools and knowledge needed to ensure that the government support promised to cover damages of the Second Lebanese War is paid, as to date the government has been extremely lapse in fulfilling these promises.
Recently media reports revealed that today, almost a year after the War ended, the promises made by the government to the North have not been fulfilled. Understanding how the state budget is constructed and how priorities are made, is the basic knowledge needed so that activists can work to ensure the channeling of state resources to the northern periphery. SEA can provide social activists in the North with the basic knowledge that can in turn generate the tools for social change.
Your grant of $10,000 will allow SEA to Offer two 10 courses consisting of 5 two hours meetings which will directly reach 40-50 social activists in northern Israel.
