Agents of Change - Acquiring Tools for Social Change
The inception of the Social Economic Academy (SEA) was decided upon following the release of alarming data showing that there has been a 40% increase of employed people living under the poverty line in Israel over the last 20 years. A broad investigation executed by the founders of the SEA uncovered that lack of knowledge, information and tools precludes effective activities to change existing social-economic policy. Activists in social change organizations need to acquire better knowledge of how to deal with the state’s decision-making policies, how to demand government accountability and how to cope with the authorities in order to bring about change.
The target audience of Agents of Change - Acquiring Tools for Social Change is social activists. SEA offers these activists neo-liberal social economic knowledge from a critical perspective while presenting alternatives to the existing policies in Israel and offering practical tools for social change.
To reach these goals, SEA offers full semester and short courses to activists in social change organizations nationwide. SEA recruits volunteer course coordinators that construct, together with the academic director of SEA, study plans, recruits lecturers (10 nationwide), finds classrooms where courses will be held and recruits at least 20 activists to participate in each course by advertising through social change organizations’ networks. The courses offer knowledge and tools as well as lead to social change projects at the end of each course.
The annual budget of the Agents of Change - Acquiring Tools for Social Change Project is $23,800 for 2010-2011 academic year. SEA expects to cover part of these expenses by self generating income from tuition and rigorous fundraising efforts to secure support and funding from a diverse base of foundations, private donors and institutional agents such as the New Israel Fund, Oxfam GB and The Goldman Foundation.
We need your help! Your donation of $5,400 is needed to complete funding for the Agents of Change - Acquiring Tools for Social Change Project. We hope you will join us in being part of this exciting project to change existing social economic policy in Israel.
